5 For Friday May 10

5 for FRIDAY | MAY 10

Friday greetings, Daymakers! Smile!  It's Fri-nally! I've had a great week.  Accomplished numerous small tasks around here - inside and out.  Did some weeding, cleaned out and organized a few kitchen drawers, swapped out winter clothes for summer clothes.  Those kind of things. Small but all put together are big time to me and my world.  How about you? Super fun line-up today - Beginning with Stacy's World. Me, I've never been a giant fan of dark chocolate.  Say - if I buy the bag of the tiny candy bars that offers choices of: Hershey's Milk Chocolate, Milk Chocolate with Almonds, Krackel, Mr. Good Bar and Dark Chocolate - last choice is Dark Chocolate that totally ties last with Mr. Good Bar.  HA However, now,  I'm so gonna try the dark chocolate + walnuts Stacy writes about in her column today for a little bedtime snack.  Cool tip for sure.  Move over Krackel bar - Dark chocolate bar has taken your place! And Stacy's Chai Coffee recipe is totally calling my name.  I'm the leader of the fan club of iced Chai coffee latte at the local coffee house.  But it does come with a pri$e for being a fan.  Thanks to Stacy's tip and how-to-do at home -- I'll be making it and refrigerating it or pouring it over ice A.L.L.S.U.M.M.E.R. long! 2 Winner tips in one column!  Love it. Can't wait to read what Stacy has in store for us in her next column of fun + interestings! Thanks, Stac! QUICK QUESTION Drive an ice cream truck to work or dress like a clown?  Quick answer - I'll drive the truck.

WEDNESDAY READER | MAY 8

Hello Wednesday and Hello Daymakers! Presenting Wednesday Reader this fine day of May 8. Pretty sure you'll love the read today as much as I do/did putting it together: LESLIE ELMAN'S TRIVIA Is so fascinating and I always feel smarter reading her pieces.  Whoever heard the word "Kleptoparasite"?  Raise your hand if you have.  Not me.  But I do now and I might pull the word out from time to time just to see people's brows do a brow question mark thing.  Ha! QUICK QUESTION How many animal sounds can I make?  I actually started making the sounds to count and my cats awoke from their catnaps, at full attention, gathering around to see if I'd gone C-R-A-Z-Y.   They amuse me and from time to time I try and amuse them. I counted 8.  How about you? OUTTA THE MOUTHS OF BABES Is beauty-full.  I don't even have a favorite take away.  All are heartbeats of awwwwww. HERB SHRIMP ON THE BARBIE Is an absolute must make.  I'm not even going to go on and on about it.  Just gotta trust me.  Once you make it - you'll be a diehard fan all summer long!  This summer - next summer - and all summers forward!  Get ready for people to ask for the recipe because it's gonna happen.

TOP OF THE MORNING | MAY 6

Hi! Good Morning and Good Monday greetings - I had a chill, relaxed weekend.  Hung out with some friends and shared a lot of laughter.  Always best times in the making!  You? Great line-up of collected fascinatings to present today. BEGINNING WITH: BUILDING A SHIP IN A BOTTLE AWE-SOME short watch.  I'm pretty sure, knowing me, I wouldn't have that kind of disciplined patience to do such a piece of art.  And it is art.  I would have the patience to write a little note and slide it inside a bottle, cork it, and toss it in to the ocean.  Ha! LIFE WAS GREAT GROWING UP IN THE 70's Is a blast from the past fun read! 8-tracks -- check School Lunches -- check Private Phone calls depended on the length of the phone cord - check JAWS the movie - check, check, check Allowed outside without supervision - check Saturday mornings and cartoons - check Staying up late to watch Saturday Night Live - check 11 THINGS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT THE "PEANUTS" COMIC STRIP

HOLA BONJOUR HOWDY Happy Friday.  Super fun read for this first Friday in May 2024 + exciting NEWS! Beginning with exciting NEWS! Stephanie's Chic on the Cheap from here forward is Stacy's World.  Stephanie and Stacy are one and the same. Beginning next week Stacy will pop in every other week - or weekly depending on her schedule - with her Stacy's World column and share fantastics, not just fashion tips and tricks, but recipes, DIY cool ideas for home and life, adventurers around town and elsewhere, cool product finds, entertaining ideas, where to find chic on the cheap and So. Much. More.  As in whatever strikes her fancy!  I'm super excited and thrilled that Stacy is such a giant part of Daymaker Readable Art with her innovativeness.  I love Katiedid Langrock's writing.  This piece - Memory Climb - yes, I sometimes think about the good old days from my younger years.  However, she's braver than I taking those memories on.  Ha! QUICK QUESTION What's the funniest sounding instrument to me?  All can be funny depending on how they're played and what's being played.  Without a doubt the childhood instrument of grade school -- the RECORDER is my answer. HA!!   Do kids still play the recorder in grade school I wonder. 3 THINGS IN LIFE

TOP OF THE MORNING | APRIL 29

Happy hello Monday + outstanding readers! We've had plenty of "not messin' around" rain here in my part of the world over the weekend. Thunder!  Big time thunder that was the background BOOMS (!) to the sky opening up with hardcore rain falling.  I actually like the sound of thunder.  My cats not so much.  My sister, Jennie, not somuch.  You? Super cool collection to present today for your enjoyment! Beginning with: REMOTE CONTROL SAVING DEVICE!  Wow! Should I get in trouble in the water I want this super fast device coming to my aid lickety-split! PEOPLE ARE LOSING THEIR UNDERWEAR WHEN THEY TRAVEL BLEW my mind short read. 2 live SNAKES?!  Yikes. I actually lost my luggage on Christmas Eve a couple years ago.  The planes didn't take off - as in with passengers - but my luggage did somehow.  Mine and hundreds and hundreds of others. I was in line a week later with others trying to locate our bags and the couple behind me told me that their luggage had the husband's famous family recipe of a giant brisket in the suitcase to take for Christmas. Uhhhh.  Wonder how that worked out. But 2 live SNAKES! GIRAFFE GETS MUCH NEEDED HELP FROM A CHIROPRACTOR Stole my heart.  I love this Chiropractor/Doctor who helps animals and people.  Why wouldn't animals need "adjustments" same as us? CASTLES!  HERE IN THE U.S.?!  I totally wanna go see one/walk through it.  Amazing.

5 for FRIDAY | APRIL 26

Greetings Outstanding readers! How's the week been? Wonderful around here. I put in some quality weed pulling time, hung up my 2 hummingbird feeders with fresh nectar = sugar water (no sightings of the fast little birds just yet - but I know they're gonna discover, come and enjoy) and have been doing a daily 5-5-5 of Spring Cleaning purging (see Top of the Morning for that cool tip -  Quick way to revisit - click ) + hung out with Stephanie for lunch and laughter. I'm looking forward to a productive and chill weekend! FAB 5 for FRIDAY line-up today - Beginning with STEPHANIE'S CHIC ON THE CHEAP I love the beautiful, inexpensive glass vases + bowls + glued on colored stones = original little pieces of glimmering mushroom art to perfectly position in the garden or in big planters.  COOL and easy-peasy to make/create thanks to Steph telling us how! I know of these colored stones Steph speaks of in her column.  Have seen them in Hobby Stores (they come in little "fishnet" style bags and they're eye-candy pretty).  Pretty sure I have a bag or 2 around here *sigh* no idea idea where they are - but I'm on the hunt. Steph's idea of the upside down Tiffany lamp planter is gorgeous! AND the Caprese Avocados - holy smokes YUM!  Lunch and light dinner on repeat! Thanks, Steph! QUICK QUESTION Is a toughy. So many beautiful birds. Let me back up - ALL birds are beautiful, frankly, to me -- even buzzards.  Yep, even a buzzard. However, if a genie granted me a "What kind of bird do ya wanna be for a day or two wish?" -- I'd probably choose Eagle or Hawk.  They soar so high in the sky and are so mighty.  I can only imagine what their "bird's eye view" is.  How about you? Wednesday greetings! It's "hump day" as it's been dubbed.  Half-way through the work week. Hold tight - Friday and the weekend are on their way! Presenting Wednesday Reader.  Whole bunch of fun packed in today! Beginning with: LESLIE ELMAN Did you know what the "pearls" are in a cup of BOBA -- or Bubble Tea are? I didn't!  Pretty cool, for sure.  I'm gonna seek a cuppa BOBA next time I see a shop offering it to really give it a tasty-taste! QUICK QUESTION Weirdest thing by my bed is a can of wasp spray.  And it's not for wasps. In the unlikely event that an intruder enters my home -- I'm armed and ready!  Pretty sure I got the idea from a movie I saw a long time ago.  Makes sense to me.   You? SIGNS IN THE KITCHEN Are a crack up! SMOKED SALMON NICOISE SALAD RECIPE Is kisses to the sky delish!  I actually prefer the canned tuna over smoked salmon.  Both fish great options for this salad + a glass of cold Rose wine.

TOP OF THE MORNING | APRIL 22

Mellow Monday greetings, friends - I had a ton of fun collecting these for today! Beginning with: 12-12-12 Method for spring/purging cleaning I'm gonna dial it back to a 5-5-5 Method.  Baby steps for me.  Ha SIZE COMPARISON OF LIVING + EXTINCT ANIMALS Holy camoly! Seeing is believing! My personal YIKES take-a-ways were: Manta Stingray -- 15 feet Saltwater Croc - 16 feet King Cobra - 13 feet 11 ADVERTISING SLOGANS I remember one and all. Makes me feel a little older OR I feel like I have a great memory OR the advertising slogans were so great that I still remember them. My favorite take-aways are: "I can't believe I ate the whole thing" "Where's the Beef?" "It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature" "Calgon take me away" I'm thinking the advertisers might want to resurrect these great ads - because we know they're "stickers" - but who am I to suggest such?  Ha WALLPAPER ART INSPIRATION Beautiful ideas. I remember when there was a time in my world that I was a "hater" of wallpaper.  Specifically, when Peter and I bought our home 30+ years ago.  Crazy wallpaper from room-to-room and we stripped all from the walls. But wallpaper and it being art has evolved! Now, downstairs half-bath is wallpapered with art and also upstairs master bedroom (one wall only).  Both beautiful. HOW TO FERTILIZE HANGING BASKETS OF FLOWERS Is absolutely timely!  I'm so gonna follow these tips from the Pros so my pretty hanging baskets will be happy and make me smile throughout the summer and fall. 5 for FRIDAY | APRIL 19

Friday greetings! Fabulous line-up to share today on the last day of this week. Steph's off this week.  She's super busy and will be back soon with more tips and tricks to share with us!  Steph sends all of us her "hello"! The stand-in for STEPHANIE'S CHIC ON THE CHEAP today is a fun blast-from-the-past read from the archives of Katiedid Langrock titled, "Twister Coming." I find the "Twister Coming" column amusing.  I did see "Twister" - the movie - but apparently I missed Helen Hunt's wardrobe.  Perhaps, I need to give it another watch.  And then - bust out my white tank top and khakis and be in Ninja combat tornado mode!  It's definitely tornado season around these parts.  Ha! QUICK QUESTION My favorite flower?  Hmmmm - that's a tough one because all flowers are so pretty to me.  Including dandelions.  Yep, I just said dandelions. I will say at first thought - sunflowers - especially the big, tall ones with their giant faces as big serving plates.  You? FILM CREW 101 TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT Behind the scenes is a peek-a-boo to those who don't or haven't worked in the film business.  Teamsters aka TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT is a ya didn't know -- but now ya do -- read. Peter and I wrote this in our book years ago.  I ran it by my brother-in-law, Greg, (who worked Transportation in the Film Industry for years - as Coordinator and Captain) and I asked if what was written was correct.  He offered a few little changes to make - which I have. Greg also added that depending on the size of the show -- he was in charge of anywhere from 30, 60, 100 drivers/trucks -- and orchestrated all trucks + equipment to get to where working crew needed them to be fast, so all crew could jump quickly on task for the next set-up/shots/plans for the day. I assure you, PATIENT film production would be an oxymoron. JAPANESE STEAK ROLLS + GARLIC LIME RICE RECIPE Comes from Justin, head caterer, on the set of Salem.

Beginning with the Illustration of the CHESHIRE CAT - makes me smile because he's both smiling and has a a little mischievousness all at the same time. SPEED BUMP CARTOON On a scale of 1-10 how painfully awkward is this?  Me, personally, might answer, "Can I answer Richter Scale awkward?"  ha! QUICK QUESTION How do I define beauty?  Let me count the ways -- A new flower that popped up in the garden that wasn't there yesterday. A little kid in a shopping cart at the store with his/her parent who gives me a toothless grin. Peek-a-Boo moments/memories of those who have gone before me - people + pets (via a song on the radio or a cool siting while out and about). Laugh out loud outta nowhere moments. You?  18 SIGNS YOU'VE GROWN UP SINCE HIGH SCHOOL Thumbs up! MARGARITA SCALLOPS RECIPE Needs no intro.  Simply a kiss of culinary delight!
